Role Model Spotlight:'s Charles Best

Charles Best is one of the most modest revolutionaries I have ever met. Just 16 years ago he was teaching history at a public high school school in the Bronx. It was there that he had his vision for a crowdfunding platform to help teachers in need. I remember when I met him and asked him if the story about Oprah discovering him was true- he sheepishly said, yes, pretty much. What he often leaves out, and admitted to me, was that when he first started, he spent endless hours calling over 100 reporters and news outlets trying to get someone to pay attention to his then side hustle charity. Nothing comes easy. You have to work for it. That's what Role Models do. Even the humble ones like Charles Best. Thankfully, lots of people now pay attention to

  • Teachers at 72% percent of all the public schools in America have created project requests, and 2,190,327 people have donated $445,782,886 to projects that inspire them.
  • Over 19,082,138 students—most from low-income communities, and many in disaster-stricken areas—have received books, art supplies, field trips, technology, and other resources that they need to learn.

I am personally honored, along with Role Model Elliot Weissbluth, Founder and CEO of HighTower to have partnered with DonorsChoose.Org to raise money for teachers who want to promote financial literacy. I hope you will consider pre-ordering "How to Be a Financial Grownup" and then follow the directions on our Giving Back page to get your free gift card. Then go on our website and give to a classroom project.
